This estimate assumes steady power use. Pump speed and the resistance in your pool’s pipes and filters can change consumption.
How it works

Understand the estimate

Daily kWh equals pump kW multiplied by hours pumped per day. Divide budget by (daily kWh Ă— electricity tariff) to estimate the number of days.

Make it more accurate

Reducing runtime or speed can change usage considerably; follow pool manufacturer and water-quality guidance.

The starting figures are examples. Replace them with the rates or prices that apply to you.

Running hours affect your electricity cost

This tool estimates days of use from your budget, the pump’s power use and its daily running hours. Larger motors do not always mean proportionately better circulation, and a variable-speed pump can consume less power when run slower.

Example: At 0.75 kW, five hours per day and R3/kWh, the pump uses 3.75 kWh daily and costs R11.25 a day. A R450 budget would last around 40 days under those assumptions.

Before relying on the estimate

Choose running hours that suit your pool size, pump and filtration needs. Follow the manufacturer’s advice so that reducing electricity use does not compromise water quality.
